Vipers 2-1 Jwaneng Galaxy (2-3) – St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
2022/2023 Uganda Premier league winners Vipers SC were crashed out of CAF Champions League Preliminaries despite win (2-1) over Botswana’s Champions Jwaneng Galaxy.
Vipers needed 3 goals without conceding to cover up a 2-0 defeat they were handled while in Botswana.
Yunus Sentamu stood high to his heights when he scored an half time brace to bring back hope to the home side but a late free kick by Gilberto Baruti turned the favour to visitors.
A game played at flood lights, Vipers started dominative and creating chances that would earn them more goals.
This paid off in the 30th minute when Yunus Sentamu opened the score.
In the added minutes of halftime, Yunus doubled Vipers’ lead sending a lot of fans to wide celebrations.
The results meant that Vipers could only score one more goal and avoid conceding which wasn’t the case as the second half, Vipers didn’t do enough for the third goal.
In the 89th minute, Gilberto Baruti scored a beauty of a free kick to silence the Kitende fans.
The results meant that Vipers would need more two goals to get back life but this seemed to be difficult.
Vipers SC will now focus to defending the Uganda Premier league as well the Uganda Cup if they are to qualify for the Preliminary rounds next year.
Botswana’s Champions Jwaneng Galaxy will now take on South Africa’s Orlando Pirates who eliminated Comoros’ Djabal FC on a 4-0 score.
