Esperance Secures Place in Final with Win over Sundowns

In a captivating semi-final showdown with Sundowns, Esperance once again displayed their quality and resilience to advance to the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Having secured a narrow 1-0 victory in Tunisia during the first leg, the Blood and Gold found themselves under considerable pressure from a rampant Sundowns side during the return fixture in Pretoria.

It was Raed Bouchniba’s 56th-minute strike that ultimately proved the difference, as Esperance withstood an onslaught of attacks from the South African outfit.

Despite coming agonizingly close with Thembinkosi Lorch and Themba Zwane both striking the woodwork, Sundowns were unable to equalize, as Esperance held tight to secure a 1-0 aggregate win.

The win cements Esperance’s reputation as one of Africa’s most dominant clubs, having won the Champions League twice in the past decade alone.

As they look ahead to their showdown with Al Ahly in the final, Esperance will carry both their experience and form into the matchup, with the hopes of delivering a historic third title to their passionate supporters.
