Captain Wanyama Leads St Julian to Knockout Stage in USSSA Games 2024

The 2024 USSSA Games witnessed an enthralling group stage match between St. Julian High School from Mukono and St. Maliko High School.

With their eyes set on advancing further in the tournament, St. Julian emerged victorious with a hard-fought 1-0 win at the Masaka Recreation Center.

It was Simon Wanyama’s superb goal that sealed the deal for St. Julian, allowing them to secure maximum points and finish the group stage with an impressive seven points from three games.

Wanyama’s consistent goal-scoring form has played a pivotal role in St. Julian’s journey so far, as he has found the back of the net in each game they have played.

In their opening match, Wanyama’s breathtaking hat trick against St. Kaggwa set the tone for their campaign.

Despite facing a tough challenge in the second game against Paidha, Wanyama’s solo goal helped salvage a crucial point for his team.

And once again, in the last group game, Wanyama’s goal secured a decisive victory and propelled St. Julian into the next stage of the tournament.

Felix Kawooya Ssekabuza, the head coach of St. Julian, was effusive in his praise for the collective efforts of everyone involved.

He acknowledged the invaluable support of the school management, fellow coaches, and the unwavering dedication of the players, emphasizing that their commitment has been instrumental in qualifying for the knockout stage.

The participation of St. Julian, Mukono, in the national tournament marks a significant milestone for the team.

Having previously clinched the trophy in the Mukono Zone, they have proved their mettle and demonstrated that they can compete at the highest level despite it being their debut appearance on the grand stage.

The collaboration with Rays of Grace Academy has undoubtedly contributed to the team’s success, fostering an environment of growth and cohesion.

With Ssekabuza leading the way, assisted by Michael Kabali, Jamadah Magaasi, and Swaib Mbuga, the coaching staff has played a crucial role in nurturing and guiding the players towards greatness.
